More. In the good old days of high standards many excellent teachers were women who accepted the low salaries because no one else would hire them. Salaries for teachers are still low compared to other professions and teachers are now forced to follow the dictates of the self styled "experts" in their think tanks. A recipe for disaster.. Let the teachers figure it out. Get rid of the think tanks. That will save allot of money. Get rid of all those tests. Let the teachers do their thing. Get rid of our armies of school administrators and the bureaucracies they run. My old school in London had a headmaster, one manager, one secretary, forty five teachers and 900 boys. We, they did fine.

For decades, collectivist agitators in our schools have chipped away at academic excellence in the name of fairness, diversity and social justice. "Progressive" reformers denounced Western civilization requirements, the Founding Fathers and the Great Books as racist. They attacked traditional grammar classes as irrelevant in modern life. They deemed ability grouping of students (tracking) bad for self-esteem. They replaced time-tested rote techniques and standard algorithms with fuzzy math, inventive spelling and multicultural claptrap.
