Force our family (for example) to pay 15k/yr for Government coverage that we neither need nor want. Not to mention, be far more expensive than the current plan we now enjoy through DH's company: he pays 10K/yr to insure 15 employees AND their families, INCLUDING dental and vision. Only in liberal la-la-land is '15' less than '10'.

Force you to pay fines or go to jail for refusing to cooperate. You VILL participate, Komrade!

Force EVERYONE into a Government plan if their current insurance changes so much as ONE JOT of the contract. That will stifle flexibility and consumer choice (some word, that...) at best, drive the insurer out of business at worst. In other words, Government Knows Best.

From economist Keith Hennessey comes a list of taxes included in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's Senate health care overhaul:

  1. 40% excise tax on health coverage in excess of $8,500 (individuals) / $23,000 (families).  Amounts are indexed for inflation by CPI-U 1% – begins in 2013 – $149 B tax increase

  2. Additional 0.5% Medicare (Hospital Insurance) tax on wages in excess of $200,000 ($250,000 for joint filers) – begins in 2013 – $54 B tax increase

  3. Impose annual fee on manufacturers and importers of branded drugs – begins in 2010 –...
