90-Year-Old Medal of Honor Winner Ordered to Remove Flagpole

has a flagpole right in the middle of his front yard. It isn't a lwan, as it is landscaped in pea gravel and juniper bushes. Yes, it's an eyesore, even though I have since learned to ignore it. Yes, this is an HOA neighborhood. But in our state, HOAs have virtually no legal authority or powers of enforcement. So, however he got the OK to have his flagpole, (or, knowing him, it would have likely been a matter of 'or not'), he's got it.

There are, to my mind, bigger battles to fight. The next owner can, after all, remove the pole if he so desires.

The colonel should be permitted to have his flag, and should receive the gratitude of his neighbors for his service, instead of the harassment of thin-skinned legal-eagle...
