FACT: God doesn't lie.

Fact: There are impressions of bones and plants, and decaying isotopes in the rocks themselves, that indicate the world is orders of magnitude older than Genesis would seem to indicate.

Fact: The Bible itself states that time is completely irrelevant to God. "A thousand years is as a day." That is not meant as a ratio, it is meant to convey that God is outside of time itself - time is his plaything, and all creation is his footstool.

Speculation: Given the above, 6 days could have been: 6 24 hour days as we think of them, 6 epochs of unknown duration where God was "doing stuff", or 6 passes back and forth of time travel while he tweaked stuff to get it just right. Or something even...

But he has a major achilles heel. He has never seen a gun control bill he didn't like, including the Clinton AWB.

That is roughly equivalent of saying "Oh, he's wonderful on fiscal conservatism, and most social issues, but he is pro partial-birth abortion."

The gun owner's in this country are tired of being 3rd class citizens as far as the Republicans are concerned. This has led to the NRA endorsing "Blue Dog" D's over wishy-washy R's. And in fact, that strategy has paid off for them, in that Obomination has not dared to touch gun rights so far. I don't think it was a wise course for them, but that is what they have always claimed - they are a single-issue organization.
