This is the legacy of John F. Kennedy for those who do not study nor watch your government. Before Kennedy the government worker had the choice to work for the government and have their rights as a citizen just like the rest of us. Now, not only do they have the same rights as the rest. They also have the right to blackmail us with strikes and all sorts of mischief, malfeasence and other forms of persuasion. If a person wants a job for life, as S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi deserves a swift rap on the knuckles for hiding underneath the desk of the American schoolteacher. In a cynical ploy to evade accountability for the Democrats' continued fiscal recklessness, Pelosi accused opponents of the $26 billion public employee union bailout bill of "demeaning" teachers -- and nurses, police officers and firefighters. Pelosi took great offense at Republican leaders who called out the Big Labor special interests pushing the emergency summer rescue. But if they walk, talk, spend and lobby like special interests, let's call them what they are.
