John, You are right, but nobody will believe you. You are right in saying that the majority of mens fb and bb programs lose money, but that is because the majority of college teams are not in the big time. The football teams that play games on national TV on a Saturday are making big bucks. They are the ones people are aware of. Most folks don't stop to think about how many college football programs operate below that elite level. Western Washington University recently dropped its football program because football was the most expensive sports program they had. All sports at WWU required money from the university, and football had by far the highest operating costs.

You are so right. Given the wacky left wing bias of most of the professors who write our history books, I am glad that the kids are not learning their lessons. Better to be ignorant than to be brainwashed.

Well said, Rich. It's high time that conservatives, at least, quit using McCarty's name as an epithet. I'm going to write an e-mail to that effect to Mr. Jacoby. M. Stanton Evans very carefully dismantled the lies about McCarthy in his abundantly footnoted book Blacklisted by History. When Senator McCarthy asked someone if they'd been spying for the Soviets, he generally knew the answers before he asked the questions; that's why so many of his "victims" took the Fifth when asked about their esponage activities. Here's a good column on the subject: http://historyhalf.com/lying-about-mccarthy/
Sowell's column at the above address is brilliant. Many people don't know how easy it is to copy and paste an Internet address into the search field. Just hi-light the address by waiving your mouse over the address while holding the mouse button down. Then hit the control key ("ctrl" key) simultaneous with the letter "c" to copy the address. Then paste the address into your search field by putting the curser into the search field, clicking in the search field, and hitting the control key with the letter "y." Easy as pie.

Nobody should be surprised at Professor Klitzman's anti-American radicalism. Two words should be enough to explain it: Columbia University. Columbia is where Prof. Nicolas De Genova exulted over America's humiliation in Mogadishu, saying that the US deserves "a million Mogadishs." Columbia hired Prof. Rashid Khalidi after he'd spent several years as a spokesman for the PLO. Columbia is where the Communist International recruited about half its American spies during the Cold War. Here's a link to a pretty good column about the university's anti-American history: http://historyhalf.com/columbia-university-today/

Dr. Sewell's column points out how different Pres. Reagan was from other Repub. politicians. The Gipper always thought and spoke in terms of principles, and people were willing to see the value of the principles he talked about.
Here's a dead link: http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/fy2010/assets/hist01z1.xls Before the Obama forces took over the Office of Management and Budget, you could visit the OMB website and find a chart of federal revenues and spending for the last hundred-odd years. But the link is now dead, as you will find if you try to cut and paste the above. Why doesn't the administration want taxpayers to have access to this info?? There is no equivalent page. I've searched for it in vain. I sent in an e-mail requesting information. My-mail was ignored. Some transparency...

Ted, you're shooting the messenger. It's not Dr. Sowell's fault that humans tend to apply themselves to their own self interest. Dr. Sowell is just pointing out something that would be true whether he talked about it or not.
