Taiwanese today are Chinese, either Hokkien or Hakka from Fujian and Guangdong or other Han from all over China who came to Taiwan between 1945-1949 and small numbers in 1953 (PLA POWs who didn't want to go back to China)and smaller numbers since.

There are also very small numbers of New Taiwanese arriving in Taiwan since the 1990s--mostly SE Asians from Vietnam, etc but also non-Asians including Americans who have become ROC citizens.

There were no Chinese "forced" out of Taiwan in 1683. The Zheng regime simply lost power and became ruled by the Qing. The subjects of the Tungning stayed and simply became subjects of the Qing.

However, since the Qing never had full control of Taiwan and renounced its claims to it...

The Nobel Peace Prize, already devalued, has sunk to a new low. This assessment has nothing to do with one's estimation of this year's recipient, President Barack Obama. Most of those on the left, with a few predictable exceptions such as the New York Times, regard giving the president the award as belittling him and the prize.

How did this happen? What was the Oslo Committee's motive?

They may be moral idiots, but they are not stupid: I believe that they had two clear aims.
