The United States Senate, yesterday did something rational which, for the Senate, is so irrational that I had to stop and think about whether what they did made any sense.
The issue was whether to authorize the funding of seven additional F-22 Raptor fighter jets at a cost of twenty-seven jillion dollars each.
Seriously, according to the LA Times the Senate vote was to strip $1.75 billion out of the Defense Authorization bill which, according to my calculator puts the cost of each plane at $250 million.

And in 1991? The Iraqi air force ran away (okay flew away) and what was left were blown out of the sky. Again, when was the last time the US faced heavy air-to-air combat? The answer was Vietnam. As I said, best get the defenses of Washington up as you never know when Lee is going to come back and threaten the city.
The F-22 was made to fight the Soviets and they are gone. Care to make a case for a new cold war with someone? So afraid of the PLAAF you need more than 187 of these high priced toys? What you own stock in Lockheed or something?
