Last I saw there was no requirement that you be monolingual to be an American. I know that far too many Americans are in fact monolingual and in some cases (Alabama for example) they have yet to even master the English language...ironic since a candidate for governor from there proposes making English the official language of Alabama and looking at how few can actually speak English well from there...ain't and git "ain't" words folks.

Simply because unlike you (apparently who has narrowed yourself to the knowledge of only one language)some Americans can speak other languages fluently doesn't make them any less American. I might also add many "Americans" from New Jersey have problems with the English language as well "yuze guys"...

We're grateful for plain old cops. What a relief that Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who could be mistaken for Inspector Clouseau, was not in charge of the search for the Times Square bomber.

The mayor, he told NBC News, was looking for "a home-grown" someone protesting health care reform legislation. Janet Napolitano, the secretary of homeland security, was looking into "a man-caused disaster," not terrorism, and Attorney General Eric Holder was on the scout for someone to listen to his Miranda rights.

Everyone who hasn't slept through the past decade realizes that this is no time for euphemism and...
