The Chinese actually fare prettty well today in Malaysia, in 1969 there were major riots that were largely against the Chinese. The Chinese are resented in Malaysia to some degree, but that is the case in Thailand, the Philippines and all over SE Asia where the Chinese minority dominates economically. They are basically the Jews of SE Asia and are often treated little better than the Jews were in Europe in the past. At least they have yet to end up in ovens, but there have been major pogroms against them, but this has more to do with economic jealously than religious intolerance.

At the recent World Swimming Championships, officials announced that competitors would soon be banned from using the new record-smashing, limit-testing buoyant high-tech polyurethane bodysuits. I’m sure Michael Phelps and his friends are bummed out. As a former record-setting competitive swimmer who used to shop for tight racing suits in the “infant” apparel section to score an advantage, I can attest to the desire to push the limit with one’s aquatic apparel.
