Two exceptions to my rule--I don't buy American tires anyomore because I don't support rent-seeking and since I can't stop Obama from placing a average 30% tax on Chinese tires, I can only object by not buying American tires myself and trying to convince others to do the same--once these companies are hurt by this and know why they'll stop their rent-seeking.

I also if all things are equal buy American-made cars, but if I get a good deal I'm more flexible on this than the tires. If Dodge as crappy as is $6,000 less than Toyota (the brand I prefer followed by Nissan--Honda doesn't make a full-size truck), I'll cross my fingers and buy the Dodge.

The gist of Gen. Stanley McChrystal's analysis that presumably will be presented to President Barack Obama is: If 1) you and Congress fully resource the effort (troops, materiel and civilian aid) and 2) if we get much better at coordinating all our assets -- Defense and State departments, the U.S. Agency for International Development, intelligence, contractors, NATO and others -- then 3) there is a better than even chance of success in Afghanistan, which will take 4) between five and seven more years.
