Obama was mostly it seems raised by his white grandmother.

There is no shortage of parents, but there is a shortage of children parents want--infants and those in foster care most parents don't really want to adopt--those being pre-teens and teens. Thus why there is a boom for children from places like China, Korea, Vietnam, etc.

Blacks do indeed adopt at lower rates than whites as do Asians, thus why many Chinese children are adopted by Americans rather than citizens of China--this seems to be changing though as more Chinese now seem willing to adopt if the story I recently read is true...there has been a drop of children from China adopted by foreingers.

As our health care system is debated in Congress and we continue to face down pro-choice challenges in the bill, I want to take the time to remind all of us of another vulnerable segment of our population. This is one area in which we should be in full agreement, but still one we too often overlook: the thousands of children in need of adoption by loving families who are instead consigned to a struggling foster-care system.
