The headline is misleading. Do not believe you can dispense with paying a student loan. Ten years ago, I was a proposal manager for what was at the time the largest debt collection company (worst year of my life, what a bunch of low-lifes). I wrote proposals to win business from the US Dept. of Education and other US agencies, including the Treasury Dept. After the scandal a couple of decades ago where doctors and lawyers would finish school, claim bankruptcy and get out of the loan, congress made paying back student loans almost impossible to avoid. Maybe death will get you out of it, but not much else.

I’ve been working the Baby Steps and doing a budget most months. But how does someone who is single stay motivated and focused with something like this? It feels sometimes like it would be easier if I had someone holding me accountable.
