Well, "normally" the responsible gun owners I know would most defintitely defend their person and their property regardless, and their neighbors too, it is their nature because they are not weak pacifists. Most legal, repsonsible gun owners have more skill and ability in the face of danger than the average meth addict, gangbanger or psychotic with a gun. Personally, I'd rather go down attempting to protect myself or another person than not having tried at all for fear of the gorilla raping me being "tougher".

President Obama’s inaugural address was arguably one of the most liberal speeches he’s ever delivered—but one line in particular drew the ire of NRA’s Wayne LaPierre:  “We cannot mistake absolutism for principle, or substitute spectacle for politics, or treat name-calling as reasoned debate.”
