My understanding when the Patriot Act passed, with much angst from us libertarian minded dangerous types - was that the scope would be limited to those we had identified as jihadist/terrorists threats. I compromised on that philosophically. We know exactly who they are. Target the terrorists and their cohorts (but we can't even do that as the Boston jihadists proved). It was Big Sis - who started to include right wing evangelical religious patriot types as threats and then we got all Chris Christie about it and it snowballed into HUGE, monstrous, tyrannical overreach. What is that blob missing about security vs. spying for clear political intimidation.
