Norman Lear would often plug his own opinions on "All in the Family" by making the character presenting his own side someone reasonable and intelligent. The opposite opinion would be defended by Archie Bunker. His argument got the genius; the other side got the buffoon. His side got to put forth its best argument; the other side either its weakest argument or a poor parody of what Norman thought the other side's argument would be. This is what I call the "Archie Bunker" ploy.

Unbelievable.  This girl, apparently standing in line with her dad, is waiting in line, hoping for a chance to get her book signed and meet Sarah Palin.  Meanwhile, MSNBC's Norah O'Donnell grills her for supporting Palin:
