The point about the "welfare state" subsidizing poverty is very much reminiscent of a quote long attributed to Mahatma Gandhi: "It takes a lot of money to keep me in poverty."

And that is what the left is doing on a global scale. Why do you think they want to send so much of our money to foreign countries, in particular POOR foreign countries? It's to keep them dependent so that they shouldn't develop their own resources and provide jobs for their own people, heaven forbid. Leaders of the states of the African Union have been expressing a desire to develop their economies for decades but that would mean giving up foreign aid money from western nations and low interest/no interest loans from the IMF. They're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Capitalism favors the rich. Socialism helps the poor. These are core beliefs of almost everybody on the left, including our president. Ah, but it turns out that this worldview is completely wrong.
