Cal, I enjoyed your column. The good governor should resign. It is not about . It is about trust. If a man stands before the public and God and pledges his trust (troth) to the woman he loves, and can't keep his word to her, how am I supposed to believe that he will keep trust with people he doesn't even know. If he can't keep faith with his wife, we have no reason to believe that he will keep faith with his fellow citizens.

The first thing that should be acknowledged about South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford's admission to an extramarital affair is that it could happen to any of us. That is not an excuse (and no, it has not happened to me, or to my wife). Every married person has heard the voice; the one that says you deserve something "better."
