What, pray-tell, are "Conservative Christian" values? That's the whole problem--the blending of the political and spiritual. How else does "amnesty for illegal aliens" make list that includes abortion? What the author doesn't mention is the cost to the religious institutions. The over-identification of Christians with the GOP leads them to adopt positions the Bible is either silent on or outright opposes. That is a high cost to pay for political power.

Andy440-I'm CERTAIN that you are a good Christian man (sex assumed) but I do believe that the afore mentioned "Christian Values" can/should be aspired to by any/all of man-kind! I truly do not think Christians have a monopoly on virtue or Spirituality, but ,I may be wrong

No, Christ's doctrines are not coercive. Love is not coercive or authoritarian. Men are, including many conservatives. Men who don't know what they're saying about faith or good and evil.

Christ is the LOVE of the Father come down to men. If our values derived always from love, we would be men of good will and Christians. Upon Jesus' birth, angels in heaven sang Hosannas! Peace on earth and Good Will to men! Good will and peace are eternal values. Not just then; ALWAYS, until we see Jesus again.

Just a few of what "Conservative Christian values" are...

We have strayed FAR from what Government was designed to be, under the Constitution of the United States that was created by the Founding Fathers. We have attempted to substitute our faith in God, and personal responsibility, in faith in a so-called 'all powerful' Government, comprised of sinful, fallible men. This Government is getting involved in areas that, Constitutionally, it has NO RIGHT; and is spending kaboodles of tax payer's money that, Constitutionally, is has no right to spend... We are on the fast slope to dictatorship and tyranny, because we have, by and large, rejected faith in God, personal responsibility, and adherence to the Constitution of the United States..

-Personal responsibilty for one's life (my failings are not someone else's 'fault', and it's not the government's responsibility to 'fix' or take responsibility for my failings
-Rule of Law; in our case, the Constitution. Not rule by dictator, or political expediency, or 'touchy-feely' politics.
-Fiscal responsibility; the Government stays within a BUDGET, and spends RESPONSIBLY. The Government is NOT responsible for 'fixing' every social ill, or getting involved with every stinking issue under the sun.
-Respect for human life. Abortion is the killing of un-born HUMANS and it is wrong

"What, pray-tell, are "Conservative Christian" values?"

One day, in a sardonic jibe at some conservative who was piously claiming the mantle of heaven, I told my wife, "Don't forget, God's a Republican." Without missing a beat, she replied, "But his son's a Democrat."

Between the Old Testament Jehovah and the New Testament Jesus, a Christian can find support for almost any ideological perspective. American religion used to have room for many different political views, and American politics used to feature religious people across the entire ideological spectrum.

At one time, mainstream denominations were just as likely to tilt to the left as to the right. Back during the 1960s,...
