Add amnesty for illegal aliens and greatly increased legal immigration to the list. The former actually occurs because .of a FAILURE to implement existing law
These kids never set out to break immigration law; the government should not punish them for their parents' decisions. These kids want to live the American dream, just as they want to honor their parents' sacrifices. -----------Many of these "kids" were teens when they came here illegally and became responsible for their own lack of status at age 18 when they had STILL spent far more time in their homelands than here. Moreover, what "sacrifices" did their parents make in breaking the law and just why should they be rewarded for it? Give the kids legal status and the parents are rewarded since the kids could then sponsor them for residency. And THAT would just encourage more parents to bring their kids to get amnesty for the whole family. Want to legalize the kids? FIRST, deport the parents and give them a permanent bar to re-entry.
Nor is it, as some illegal aliens seem to think, about having a Social Security number.
Does the author really believe that passage of this bill in the Senate puts the issue of amnesty and illegal immigration behind Republicans or anyone else? Anything but. First, Rubio's lies were clear for all to see. Would you trust this man as President? Second, the CBO says that this bill would only reduce illegal immigration by 25%. We're already getting more illegal aliens crossing from Mexico, so we can bet that in a few years, we'd be back at this same argument about amnestying millions more. Third, this bill just keeps on giving and giving--to special interests, at the literal expense of AMERICAN workers. Do you really want to be a Congresscritter who voted for this bill and have to face your constituents in 2014 or 2016? Fourth, the fantasy that Latinos will ever vote for Republicans in large numbers is just that, a fantasy. Legalization would merely sink Republicans all the quicker.
Dry up the jobs magnet through mandatory eVerify and really sock it to employers who don't use it or hire illegal aliens.

Reagan gave an amnesty in 1986. It did Republicans no good at all with Hispanics. A mere two years later, George H.W. Bush got only 30% of the Hispanic vote. Fact is, Hispanics may be and often are White. We Arabs are by Census definition.

America has been "browned" for more than 100 years. My ARAB ancestors were among the hundreds of thousands of Arabs migrating to the US, Canada, and Latin America. In fact, the richest man in the world is a so-called Mexican, Carlos Slim, who is the son of Lebanese immigrants to Mexico.

Obama's Aunt Zeituni claims she didn't ask for the freebies she got as an illegal alien. As it is we already have illegal aliens filing for the additional child tax credit using ITINs and getting $4.2 BILLION from the US Treasury. If that's any indication of what all or even many illegal aliens who aren't currently filing would get if legalized, well, we're sunk.

While it is true that Hispanic immigrants new to the U.S. are, on average, substantially poorer than the native-born population, they do not remain so. -----------------Actually, they do. The entire increase in poverty between 1996 and 2006 was due entirely to the addition of 3 million Hispanics to the poverty rolls. Furthermore, Hispanics have the lowest household incomes of any ethnic/racial group. And nowadays, the number of Hispanic kids living in poverty exceeds in ABSOLUTE terms and in terms of rate the number of White kids who do. Furthermore, Linda, just what basis do you have for your assertions? You tank the Heritage Foundation's work, but offer nothing substantive to back up your own claims.
