You live in a free market society. If you do not want a pastor endorsing candidates then you can vote with your feet and find another church that best suits your spiritual and political beliefs. However, I think that it is mostly politically liberal people that "don't want their pastor in politics." Reason I think this is because those who vote liberal do not want to be reminded that whatever they supported politically has a consequence upon their spiritual life and destiny. If you vote to support abortion, you are accountable for every abortion you made possible. If you vote for gay marriage, you are responsible for every gay marriage you made possible. Every sin you support politically will be held against you as if you did it.

Although you make a valid point in that politics is not the main mission of the church, it must be stated that the church is the light of the world. You don't light a candle then place it under a basket to hide it. You put it on a stand so that it's light illuminates the whole room. Likewise, Christians are the salt of the earth. If we lose our savor (preservative qualities) we are useless. Politics in a Democratic Republic is fair game for sermons. Through politics the future fate of the country is determined in respect to morality, economics, and the other issues. The church does have a voice in all of those things. Also, you don't lose your rights when you walk through a church door. Pastors do not lose their rights behind the pulpit.

“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” (Romans 1:28–32 KJV)

“Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.” (Romans 1:24–27 KJV)

“Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.” (Romans 1:19–23 KJV)

“Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” (Romans 1:32 KJV) I will not tell you for whom to vote. I will say that your vote is your support for something. I will also say that you will be held accountable for everything you support before God in judgement. “These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” (Proverbs 6:16–19 KJV) Now make your choice.
