You misrepresented what Michaels said. The complete quote: "Prevalent claims that global warming is occurring at an ever increasing rate are troubling. Charts of recent temperatures show constant, linear warming."

Patrick Michaels is really saying that “claims about the allegedly dire effects of global warming may be exaggerated”.

He also said "The discussion surrounding global warming has become wildly extreme. You either believe it's the end of the world unless we do something about it right now, or you're a denier."

You are over-simplifying the argument. Many people agree that the earth is warming, but there is widespread disagreement on the degree of warming, the human contribution, how much is natural...

Actually, a 10% increase in velocity would result in a 21% increase in KE. A 100% increase in KE (doubling KE) would require a 41% increase in velocity.
