You have my sympathies and prayers. I know the problem you have. Friends are in the same situation. Luckily my own kids haven't tried that yet and I hope they never do. You are doing what is best for the grandkids but the law looks at the step daughter and insists she is the best "parent" for them. And all she wants is more "free" money from the state.

I hope you can get a good lawyer and keep the kids permanently. Or, if you lose them, can at least force the parents to pay their own bills and never come back to you again.

Conservatives understand that liberals often demonize their opponents rather than debate the merits of the issues because the tactic works. But you have to wonder whether another reason they lash out is that they are angry that reality doesn't cooperate with their ideologically driven solutions and it's easier to blame others than to face up to the unpleasant truth of their failed ideas.
