"An honest politician," Secretary of War Simon Cameron supposedly said, "is one who, when he is bought, will stay bought." By Cameron's definition, we have the most honest government in the history of the United States. Congress and the White House have been bought by the unions, the entertainment industry and the plaintiffs' lawyers. And they stay bought.

Several years ago a citizen sent a letter to one of the proponents of a state income tax. He stated: "I know that many of you in Austin want an income tax but I wanted to let you know that at least one person - me - is against it."
The politician wrote back: "I know that a lot of uninformed people in the state are against a state income tax. But consider. If we had access to this large, unused, fund of money out there then just think what we could do for our state!"
