In line with what you said: Texas does not have a state income tax. However most of our politicians believe we should.

Several years ago a citizen sent a letter to one of the proponents of a state income tax. He stated: "I know that many of you in Austin want an income tax but I wanted to let you know that at least one person - me - is against it."

The politician wrote back: "I know that a lot of uninformed people in the state are against a state income tax. But consider. If we had access to this large, unused, fund of money out there then just think what we could do for our state!"
