Mona Charen is absolutely right. The way the GOP based responded to the immigration debate essentially sealed out lose in this last election. One must seek true border security, will simultaneously not threatening the deportation of millions of yes, illegals, many of whom have loved in the U.S. decades. We cannot sustain a "maybe we'll throw them all out" position, and expect to capture much of legal Hispanic vote. They won't vote from a party they wants to depart their relatives. There must be a barter: true border security in exchange for leniency on those who have lived here years.
