Stressed? Are You Disabled?

I work in healthcare. You would not believe how many people on SSI have no disease with a name and are on no medications, and yet are disabled. There are many who say they are depressed or have anxiety so they can't work, and yet the condition requires no treatment. I had a patient who was on disability because he had a phobia about work, so he's on permanent vacation. I have had many patients tell me they can't get a job because then their disability payments would stop. In talking with other healthcare providers, we figure 80% fakes on SSI.

hmm--hyperbole I think. Actually, the 750 billion Obama has cut from Medicare had to do with fraud and corruption in that system, so yes there are dishonest people. I think it is unethical to avoid taxes by burying your investments in offshore accounts. The rich are as dishonest as the poor.

BS Cricket,

You obviously don't think, don't try that home, you may hurt yourself.

The $750 B cut from Medicare was SPECIFICALLY in the bill to make Obamacare fake accounting look almost legitimate.

Also Obama, and all his minions claim that fraud in Medicare is very minor, nothing to see here, let's move it along folks. He can't have it both ways.

I think it's unethical that the govt. demands ever increasing amounts of productive citizen's money to pay for failed policies. If you were a little old lady in a neighborhood where there was a rash of purse-snatching crimes, would it be unethical to stuff your money in your sock before walking to the corner store?

You are quite wrong, escrick: The $750 billion Obama cut from Medicare was to shore up his Obamacare, in order to let Medicare fail. It had nothing to do with fraud and corruption, although that exists abundantly in government programs. However, that's not the explanation Obama gave when he cut it. You think it is unethical to park money in offshore accounts only because you do not have the money to do so. If you are referring to Gov. Romney, he was not avoiding taxes, but he has every right to put his money where it will earn the best interest. Ask Debbie Blabbermouth-Wasserman Shultz and Nancy Pelosi why they have money in offshore accounts? Altruism? Highly doubtful.

I think it's unethical that 47% of potential taxpayers pay no taxes, while receiving virtually 100% of govt. benefits.

If you don't see how wrong that is, you have no concept of ethics.

What does that have to do with this issue?
One doesn't justify the other------not that I even agree that the rich are, by nature, dishonest.

As Maynard G Krebs said: "Work!"

Government worker: “Do you have a disability?”

Man: “No.”

Man’s wife: “What does he get if he’s disabled?”

Government worker: “His monthly payments will [double].”

Man’s wife: “Well, then he’s disabled.”

Government worker (to man): “What’s your disability?”

Man: “I’m stressed.”

An attorney friend of mine recently overheard the above conversation in a Florida government building. The man, who had just turned 65, was signing up for retirement benefits while his wife stood over his shoulder. I relay the story to illustrate how our government is expanding...
