Wasn't it Blackstone who said 'I'd rather see 10 guilty men free, than one innocent man suffer' (the Blackstone Ratio). But with guns, It is 'millions of innocents must suffer, so we can merely proclaim: These Laws will PREVENT Criminals'
About in the same way as in 'if JFK hadn't have up and died, we wouldn't have the LBJ 'Great Society' subterfuge, or Carter-Reagan, or Bush-Gore, or... As you say we don't know what might have been, Maybe if Manhattan Project had been in the NY Times, we wouldn't have had M.A.D., or the stopping of the Ottoman Empire because of Vlad the impaler Dracul's warnings-on-sticks.. I agree on truth is better than deception for myself, but after 'successful storage' It could have been reported (but used only to show how powerful they had become, and used as a recruitment tool for 'them' not 'us,' like they believe beheadings show their power)
LOL, I thought it was.
When I was young it was a catchy WWII saying, but I thought it could never happen here. Now, (as the article espouses) I'm finding it could, and "...when they finally came for me, there was no one left to speak!" As a 'former-smoker' for decades, I'd have to, at the very least, distribute cigarette butts around the town hall until it smelled as bad as this BS tyranny.
But would you outlaw Chicle? See the history of Central America for how well Social-Engineering worked for them (or perhaps define "inevitable unintended consequences"). That would be like cutting off someone's head to stop them from not-praising islam. Oh, wait, that IS practiced Or gov'ts. complaining about the loss of tax-profits on tobacco. Oh, wait, that IS practiced. Or giving up freedoms in exchange for unfulfilled promises of security. Oh, wait, that IS practiced. Etc...
WHAT? Ron Paul Never wanted government support given to illegal aliens, wanted increased border security, and less Welfare State for everybody by increased Free-Market growth through LESS gov't regulation. I think you've been watching too much liberal TV, instead of Libertarian TV, there's a BIG DIFFERENCE!
I see a way around this! If you just make government even bigger, then you can afford to pay your hired shills more, because government will subsidize your workers (AKA steal more from the producers). Atlas Shrugged, no longer a warning, NOW non-fiction!
I remember when a US President was forced into resignation over unethical acts like burglary within his sphere of knowledge. I also remember when a president committed much worse acts resulting in deaths of US diplomats, agents, civilians, and military and he was forced to interrupt a vacation to pretend to do his job but was able to get back to golfing quickly! My how times have changed.

So many democrats, how can you choose the worst? I'd just leave it at three most powerful corrupt, lying, incompetent, popular cell-phone providers.

Isn't the VP (as Senate leader), a member of Congress? He probably IS poor, having to use lawyers to defend use of a double-barrel from the porch of the Naval Observatory. And I'm sure his son is making it all on his own, just like Chelsea Clinton is a star journalist at NBC
