Whichever way the WI recall vote goes is a win for conservatives. It is just that if the recallers win, it will be three to five generations undergoing "fundamental transformations." The chaos will be devastating, during those scores of years, but maybe humans will learn something -- humans usually learning only from their mistakes.
Funny, wmou, I'm still here and know I am welcome -- always have been.
Mattie o, If you read the Book, yes, Jesus was a Leftist -- not that there was anything wrong with that, in His case. He might have been against abortion, though.

Meaningful Work

You can say all of that again, Dr. Sowell. Last month, I received an email from my 34 year old daughter, announcing how depressed she has become, after receiving an email from me. In that email, I had recounted my own history of the13 years of menial jobs I had had, before beginning my profession. The overall tone of that email was how much I enjoyed all the workers I met in menial jobs -- the fun we had, even making fun of our so-called "drudgery." The (dollar sign)150,000 I spent on her private women's college "education" was a complete waste. My fault, I was a very bad parent, but I never completed 10th grade. Tant pis.
Aw, say it ain't so, Pat. That you would get into the emotionalism of the Left. To wit, "...leaving half a million widows and orphans." Argue the Israeli question (the Jewish question?) all you want, but try to stay to the facts, the reason, and common sense. You do have a legitimate position there -- depends on what you think of one billion against six million. As far as your acceptance in the Republican Party goes, we accept all types, don't we? That has been our progress, since Lincoln, regardless the lies of the Left and their aparatchiks, academia.
This article is one more reason to buy, and read, Dennis Prager's just published, "Still the Best Hope." Have your kids read it, send it to everybody. My Irish side, landing here prior to 1823 (birth certificate exists, that year), the surname being "Milan" -- pronounced, "Me-LAN', Irish, of course. In 1970, I met my lifelong dentist, Dr. Milan, pronounced "MY'len" -- a Jewish-Seprhardi name from Spain. It seems a Spanish sailor, of the Armada (1588), was washed up upon the shores of Ireland, a way back then. Since learning that, I have put "Hispanic" on the census, everytime it came up -- "Jewish," also, for anybody who asked (I'm not). Whatever. Get Prager's book, pass it on. If you think you already know what he knows, you don't.

The Old Lady in Black

Yes, Paul. For me, at age 5, it was sitting on the curb of Route 8, northern Ohio, ice cream cone in hand, waving at the tankers, as they rolled by. The tanks were built at GM's Cadillac Tank Plant in Cleveland and were brought by rail flatcar to where my Dad worked. He was foreman at a company that made the finishing parts for the tank's treads. At that place, the treads were fitted, allowing the tanks to be driven by their own power to the next railhead, five miles further on. My older cousins were Marines, serving in the Pacific. One of them did not return. Because of those who served, and those who worked, I have had the best life of anyone on earth, ever.

The Unraveling Myth of Watergate

None of this is surprising, but it sure is amusing. Especially amusing, considering how the human species thinks of itself as the Creator's "highest" creation. The evidence is that no other species does to each of its fellow members what the human species do to each other. My brother, back in the 1950s, attending third grade of Catholic school, figured it out. At that time, when told God gave humans dominion over all the other animals, he commented, "How convenient." The only true virtue in mankind is the ability to lie -- no other species can do that, and by that virtue the human has gained all of its wealth and well-being. Admit that, and you're on the right track.

Figures Don't Lie: Democrats Do

I see I've touched a nerve -- Doug, wise, rick, Kevin, Inside, shubi. But shubi, the Left does have ADHD, no doubt about that. Whatever, children, as well as their overseers, need so much attention, today -- health care has become a religion in all the West's social welfare states, with all the usual suspect superstitions.
Great comments, and another good article by one of my favorite historians -- whatever good it might do. Governments, humans -- the most unruly species. If we can keep that always in mind -- "the most unruly species," we'll make better decisions of what to do. For instance, spanking worked.
