Ideology vs. Principle

Seems I'm a part of the zeitgeist, as I wrote about this earlier: http://zatavu.blogspot.com/2010/09/blinded-by-ideology.html
I loved Colbert's performance. He presented the truth in the form of satire in the tradition of the court jester. Nobody else has the guts to tell the truth to Congress -- but Colbert did. If you pay very close attention, he actually got most of the economics dead-on. And he openly ridiculed the Democrats -- who had invited him! Here's what I saw: neither side know what they're talking about on this issue (assuming good intentions on both sides), and the free market would in fact solve the problem if both sides would let it. My favorite part was when he ridiculed them for all of their attempts to legislate against reality by suggesting that they make ground-level waist-high.
So the lesson to be learned from the history of the GOP is that 3rd parties must elect local candidates, and build up from there. Sort of a bottom-up, grassroots effort. Thanks for the history lesson! We Libertarians should get right on this.

This could be an argument for gay marriage, as marriage helps provide stability in a relationship. Perhaps heterosexuals have fewer partners in no small part because they end up in a marriage after a while, and the marriage contract makes it clear that one is to remain monogamous. Thus, gay marriage is in fact a truly conservative idea, of the goal is to reduce disease and multiple sex partners.

I think more and more people should respond to these sorts of things by pointing out, "There's nothing wrong with me, you're the pervert."
Maybe it's because Obama is in fact a nonbeliever himself. It is generally known that he joined a church in Chicago for political purposes. And please note that the one he joined preached liberation theology -- a combination of Marxism and Christianity (a combination ultimately incompatible). If one must join a church and one is a nonbelieving Marxist, then that's the kind of church to join. The fact that he's a nonbeliever would also explain his personal arrogance -- indeed, I do not see how belief in socialism, which requires you to believe that a human being can have the knowledge and wisdom only God could possibly have to do the job, is compatible with belief in God. Indeed, this is likely why most socialist are atheists (and why...

Complain, complain, complain -- but where are the conservatives in SUPPORTING the arts? Nowhere. As a poet/playwright myself, I sometimes wonder if many artists become liberals just to find an audience, since conservatives/libertarians won't provide one.

If we are going to improve students' reading skills, they need to actually read something. Now, last I heard, history, political philosophy, government, etc. were all very reading-intensive subjects. In other words, they might be able to be used to imrpove students' reading skills. In fact, if we have students write essays for those classes, writing skills would be imrove through them. In other words, they would not only read and write -- but read and write about something. And they would have something to think about. Which would also imrpove their thinking skills. Despite the current education fad regarding "thinking skills," you can't learn to think unless you have something to think ABOUT. Yes, we need 4 years of English. But that...

"Contrary to Alito's assertion, the central component of the Second Amendment is to protect ourselves from U.S. Congress, not street thugs." There's a difference?

The Klan was once referred to as "The Terrorist Branch of the Democratic Party." Walter Williams once said that the Klan couldn't have come up with a better way to oppress African-Americans and "keep them in their place" than the welfare state the Democrats developed. Personally, I don't think the two are unrelated. The history of socialism is a history of racism (including anti-Semitism). One form of collectivism is the same as another, and just as evil. I never had any use for the old Klansman. Why should I show that racist any respect just because he finally died? People continue to speak ill of Hitler, and he's dead too. And they should speak ill of him.
