Good, because it isn't one. And you have no account! This isn't a bank! You have a number, and a promise from the US that if you paid in for others you will be paid when your time comes, and the entire program can be ended with the stroke of a pen. And for 75 years, with the exception of the fact that the retirement age is now too low and not enough young workers pay in at the necessary rate, it has worked like a charm. If government healthcare worked this well for this long, for 75 years we'd be in damn good shape. That's nothing to dismiss so casually. That is a true winner, the best anti-poverty plan in the history of the US. Let's work the problems but throwing the baby out with the bathwater is neither conservative nor prudent.
While the Catholic Health Association - which represents the nation's Catholic hospitals - has long been an ally of President Obama, on Friday they officially came out in opposition to the President's controversial contraception mandate in a letter sent to his Department of Health and Human Services.
