The Question at the Court

Ms. Liebau reminds me of that other great nannystater -- Mr. Bloomberg of the People's Socialist Republic of NYC. SCROTUS, if it values the 10th Amendment, needs to do two things: one is to uphold Prop 8 and the other is to strike down DOMA. Both issues are state issues, not federal issues. As such, when the people of CA voted for Prop 8, it was within their jurisdiction to do so. The 9th Circus had no constitutional authorization to even hear the case, per the 10th Amendment. On the other hand, when Congress and Billy Wack passed and signed DOMA into federal law, they violated the US Constitution. So easy a caveman can do it.
There has never been an actual cut in defense spending since the establishment of the Department of Defense. And there never will be -- the military-industrial complex will see to that.
... ceiling is not raised legislatively, I say that is totally up to PrezBO to decide -- it's up to him to prioritize those activities that need to be funded with funds on hand. My recommendation (in priority order) would be to fund: interest payments on publicly-held debt, SS payments for those 62 and older (if you qualify at a younger age, TOO BAD), fund Mediscare bills, and fund the military minus 7%. So easy a caveman could do it.
Mr. Towery is full of it when he states "What leverage will the GOP have next year that will be stronger than the cards they hold now? The answer: none." The statement is a total lie. In February, something call the debt ceiling will automatically be containing the Congresional spending frenzy and will stop continued deficit spending once the ceiling is reached. This is, of course, the largest sledgehammer the GOP could possibly weild. Under any circumstances, there is no larger "hammer" for spending restraint. Those in Congress who are 'limited Gov't" fanatics need to use the debt ceiling "hammer" to railroad PrezBO into spending not so much of the taxpayers' treasure. For those who say the US will default if the debt...
There has not been a true filibuster in over 25 years. A filibuster cannot occur until after cloture has been filed and the legislation has actually earned 60 votes to stop debate. Only when those two items are in the books can a filibuster begin. A filibuster is only succesful if a "motion to table" is successful.

This is so simple a caveman can do it: Bottomline: DO NOT increase the debt ceiling under any circumstances. -- Budget cuts? Automatically done. -- Yearly deficits? Gone. -- The debt? Pay it off after the economy rebounds. And the best part of all -- no damaging legislation proferred to correect a problem that doesn't exist.
There's an easy solution to the complaint of "government doing too much" -- simply refuse to raise the debt celing. When that happens, government will be forced to do less.

He doped -- no doubt about it -- but, so what? USADA has no jurisdiction in international competitions. The private sector should deal with this, not government. The government has more important things to worry about -- like how to keep their embassies secure...
John Allison is an excellent choice to lead the Cato Institute. However, now is not the time to bring more focus on culture issues to the detriment of economic issues and free markets. Stick to the current knitting...
Republicans need 60 votes in the Senate to overturn ObamaCare -- ain't gonna happen. Control of the Senate may switch to the Republicans after the Nov elections, but no way in hell will that amount to 60 votes to overturn.
