Officials from Dallas-based Waste Control Specialists, the Department of Energy, New Mexico and Texas cut a ribbon to open a federal low-level radioactive waste disposal site on Thursday, June 6, 2013, near Andrews, Texas. A short time later company workers placed two containers of waste from Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico into a reinforced 8-inch-thick concrete cask where it will remain forever. The waste is the first to be buried in the federal site. (AP Photo/Betsy Blaney)
