In this April 20, 2013 photo, Courtney Widener, right, walks up the red carpet with a friend as her brother, U.S. Airman Casey Widener, left background, out of focus, watches their arrival at Liberal High School in Liberal, Kan. Courtney wanted her brother, Senior Airman Casey Widener, recently returned from Afghanistan, to escort her to front door of the school, but school officials denied her request stating that at 22, he was too old to participate. The high school principal responsible for the denial has apologized, saying the intent was not to dishonor him. Deputy Superintendent Paul Larkin said Tuesday, April 30, 2013 that a policy change allowing exceptions to the age restriction will be presented at Monday’s school board meeting.
