In this Monday, March 18, 2013 photo, a worker dusts paintings in a classroom at the Hewar Gallery in Baghdad, Iraq. Ten years after the bombs began falling on Iraq, the capital Baghdad is gearing up to host a yearlong cultural extravaganza that organizers hope will quicken the pulse of the city’s ailing cultural life. The city’s designation as this year’s Arab Capital of Culture is also seen as an opportunity to paint a picture of a city of history and hope, and rub out images of death and hatred.
