Japanese manufacturing showed signs of recovery in January, with industrial production up 1 percent from the month before but down 5.1 percent from a year earlier. Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said Thursday, Feb. 28, that the figures, the second straight monthly increase, suggested the slump in output had "bottomed out." However January's figure was below economists' forecasts for a 1.5 percent month-on-month increase. (AP Photo/Koji Sasahara, File)
