FILE - In this March 5, 2012 file photo, environmental activists protest outside China's embassy holding a sign that reads in Spanish, "Chinese companies get out of Ecuador" in Quito, Ecuador to demonstrate against the government signing of a contract with Chinese-owned mining company Ecuacorriente that will invest $1.4 billion over five years to extract copper in Ecuador's southern Amazon. The project is in a region inhabited by the Shuar people, many of whom oppose mining.
