In this Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, a private security guard stands amid coils of razor wire at the entrance to a gold mine complex in Skouries, in the Halkidiki peninsula in northern Greece. Mining company Hellas Gold expects the mine to be up and running by mid 2015 creating about 2000 jobs for the next five years. But while some see the gold mine seen as a savior _ as Greece enters a sixth year of recession amid record-high unemployment _ others revile it as an environmental catastrophe that will do little to help the economy.
