This Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 photo shows a framed memorial to people who have lost their lives to street violence in the front yard of the St. Sabina Catholic Church, behind a spiked fence, in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood on Chicago's South Side. Chicago's murder rate is approaching 500, compared with 435 in 2011. More than 2,400 shootings occurred (as of Dec. 21), an 11 percent increase over last year at the same time.
