FILE - This is a Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011 file photo of former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin as he delivers a speech during a press conference in Paris. Former President Nicolas Sarkozy is the latest in a recent string of former French leaders in the legal crosshairs. Dominique de Villepin, who was Jacques Chirac's last prime minister, was acquitted last year of charges claiming that he took part in a murky smear campaign against Sarkozy _ his archrival _ exposing the personal nature of some scandals. Villepin made his name internationally as France's leading voice of opposition to the U.S. drive to war that brought down Saddam Hussein in Iraq. The aristocratic-seeming Villepin struggled and badly failed in his own presidential ambitions. (AP Photo/Christophe Ena, File)
