Steinway & Sons, a German-based subsidiary of Steinway Musical Instruments, Inc of New York, whose 370 workers produce about 1,300 pianos along with other musical instruments for Germany and the rest of the world outside the United States, will stop production for the final week of February, March, April and May. Steinway, which has been making instruments for more than 150 years, set up its factory in Hamburg in 1880. Steinway said the plant shutdowns were designed to protect jobs for the longer term and any further measures would depend on orders. REUTERS/Christian Charisius (GERMANY)
