Smoke from burning cars rises as pilgrims gather outside the Imam Hussein shrine in the holy city of Kerbala, 110 km (68 miles) south of Baghdad August 28, 2007. Police ordered hundreds of thousands of pilgrims to leave the Iraqi city of Kerbala on Tuesday after fierce gunbattles erupted between security forces and gunmen near two of Shi'ite Islam's holiest shrines.
