The corridor and cells in Budapest
The corridor and cells in Budapest's still operational central prison on October 11, 2006. Hungary will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1956 uprising against the Soviet-supported Hungarian communist regime on October 23. The central prison in Kozma street in Budapest was the prison where in June 1958 Prime Minister Imre Nagy, martyr of the revolution, spent his last hours before he was hanged with others after a secret trial after the revolution was crushed by Soviet invasion. Nagy and the others were first buried in the courtyard of the prison and were later reburied in an unmarked grave in the plot no. 301 of the Budapest Municipal Cemetery.
