A South Carolina Amtrak passenger train suffered a partial derailment less than a week before a New York City Metro-North train derailed. The former incident produced no serious injuries, whereas the latter killed at least four individuals and injured many more. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the New York tragedy as the public pushes to determine and address the causes of derailment.
Emergency teams worked in the immediate aftermath of the New York crash to deliver the passengers to safety and administer medical care.
