NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Officials on Kenya's coast say at least six people have died in a gang attack on a casino and police station.
Officials didn't immediately confirm a final death toll. A reporter at the scene who contributes to The Associated Press says he counted the bodies of seven gang members. The Nation newspaper quoted the coastal police boss as saying six had been killed.
A police officer who said he was too junior to be quoted by name said at least one police officer was also killed.
The gang attacked the Malindi Casino shortly after midnight Thursday. Dozens of men later attacked a police station, where police fired on them.
A separatist group called the Mombasa Republican Council has been blamed for a series of violent attacks in recent months.
