SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — A TV show host in the Dominican Republic accused of setting a U.S. magician's hair on fire while taping a show has turned himself in to police.
Attorney Teobaldo Duran tells The Associated Press that Franklin Barazarte was arrested after he flew back to the Dominican Republic from the U.S., where he was fulfilling previously scheduled work commitments.
Duran said Tuesday that he will seek Barazarte's release from jail ahead of trial.
A spokeswoman for the Dominican prosecutors' office said prosecutors will request that a judge impose a bond, bar Barazarte from leaving the country and order periodic court appearances before the trial.
Wayne Houchin of Chico, California, received first-degree burns on his scalp, face and right arm. Barazarte has said it was an accident.
