An African Union official says that the presidents of Sudan and South Sudan will soon meet to negotiate as "partners rather than aggressors."

Former South African president Thabo Mbeki said Tuesday that the meeting between the heads of state will happen as quickly as possible and "should actually produce concrete outcomes."

South Sudan seceded from Sudan last year, but hostilities between the two sides continue. South Sudan this year shut down its oil production _ oil that had to be sent through Sudan's pipelines _ over accusations of theft.

Mbeki said the two sides also reached agreement on citizenship matters for nationals living on the other side of the border. He said border demarcation talks will also move forward.
