Eurostat, the EU's statistics office, estimates that unemployment across the 17-nation eurozone rose to 10.7 percent in January, a new record since the euro launched in 1999.

Here's how the countries compare:

Spain 23.3 percent

Greece 19.9 percent+

Portugal 14.8 percent

Slovakia 13.3 percent

Estonia 11.7 percent++

Cyprus 9.6 percent
