Showers and thunderstorms were expected Sunday from eastern Colorado through Wisconsin. There was a slight chance of severe weather from eastern Nebraska through Wisconsin.

Widespread scattered showers and thunderstorms were expected in the Southeast and southern Texas.

In the West, scattered showers were also expected in the Southwest and along the Rocky Mountains.

The beginning of a heat wave was expected in California and the Southwest, with temperatures rising gradually throughout the week and hitting the triple digits in areas by Wednesday.

Temperatures were expected to be in the 70s and 80s in the Northeast; 80s and 90s in the Southeast; and 90s and 100s in the Southern Plains, the Southwest and inland California.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Saturday ranged from 36 degrees at Truckee, Calif., to a 120 degrees at Death Valley, Calif.
