A New York City food co-op will be voting on a proposed boycott against Israeli products to protest the Israeli's government's policies toward Palestinians.
The Park Slope Food Co-op in Brooklyn is scheduled to take an initial vote on the matter on Tuesday.
The mayor and other politicians have denounced the proposed boycott.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday that New York should be doing more business with Israel, not less.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn told The New York Times ( http://nyti.ms/H9P0bl) the idea is "ill conceived."
Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer denounced it as "an anti-Semitic crusade."
The debate over the proposed boycott has pitted neighbors against each other at the 39-year-old market. It would be mostly symbolic, since the co-op carries only a half-dozen imported products from Israel.
