CRANSTON, Rhode Island (Reuters) - A Rhode Island public high school voted on Thursday to comply with a federal court order to remove a prayer banner that has hung in its auditorium for a half century, saying the cash-strapped district cannot face a costly appeal.

"The ACLU is going to win solely because of the fiscal condition of Cranston," said Andrea Iannazzi, chairwoman of the school board that voted to comply with the court order to take down the banner at Cranston High School West based on a mandate for separation of church and state.
